2. The Color Series: The Black Piece

This piece revolves around the rituals of food/eating and their connection with change. To do achieve this I worked with black food and simple objects.
My dress was made out of black inflated balloons. The only source of light was a flashlight that I held in my mouth. I lay down on my back on the floor, supported by the balloons. Next to me there is a message written with black rice on the floor: “Please let me explode”. Next to this message there are 100 needles.
Thus I wait for people in the audience to take a needle and pop the balloons one by one. Every time someone does I shine the light on them. When all the balloons have been popped, I undo the message by eating all the rice on the floor. Then, I bring out a chocolate cake and light the candles on it. At this moment, a video starts being projected on the cake: it’s a 1960s Super 8 recording of my family’s home movies. I walk among the audience with the cake. You can feel an intense heat as I make my way through. I blow the candles and open a hole in the cake with my hands. I spit milk inside it and close it up again.
